Crazy Cat Lady.

Hi, my name is Brittney and I am a cat lady...

Might not be cray cray all the time, but my husband might say I am. The funny thing is, he was not an animal lover and last night we found ourselves contemplating picking up another stray wandering around, in fear they might get hurt. We have rescued two of the three cats we have now, and if possible I would probably take all strays in and feed them. I am a dog person too, but we have found that we enjoy the independence of our cats and how they each have their own unique traits about them. I have introduced them long ago, but I would like to talk about them more... OK, so this is starting to sound like I am the crazy cat momma.

Meet our little loves...

Oreo -The Introvert
Nickname: Fat Cat
He is our most vocal cat. Him loves his momma and daddy, hates his big sister. He is weary of everything, can have quite the attitude and is my one cat that will turn his back on you when he is mad. He is also the cat that will bother you to no end to pet him, but stay far away when you try to. I will say that his confidence has definitely improved, now he will walk on you and will always comes when you call or gesture to pet him. He  is my one cat that has conversations with me back and forth. He loves the shower, and drinks from the water bowl using his paw.

Name: Owen Wilson
Nickname: Kitty Kitty
This little sweet boy is the lover and cuddle-r, to a fault sometimes. We had the hardest time choosing a name, seriously it took forever..then one day we were joking about his sweet funky nose and the corellation between a blonde Owen Wilson and our sweet boy came to light. Some evil people moved and left him outside, he was number two and we just could not leave him out there on that stormy day. He has the softest and most quiet meow ever, it is so sweet when he meows you HAVE TO do what he wants because it is very rare. He is so hairy and all he wants to do is lay on you, always. He will test the waters and put a paw on you and almost like creep up to you to make sure you have given the approval then he will slowly crawl and plop, then cuddle you. He is my night snuggles and loves his big sister.

Last but definitely not least...

Name: Lucas
Nickname: Pulgas (Fleas in Spanish)
This little hand full is our disaster-maker. We saved him from death, he was taken from his mother far too young and then dropped back outside after they discovered he had fleas. He was so sick, extremely malnourished and covered in fleas. Our intentions with him were to bring him back from the brink of death, get him healthy and give him back to his owners... that did not happen and the owners adopted a healthy cat. We actually potty trained him, formula fed him and vetted him. Now all he wants to do is thank us by creating disasters around the home when we do not give him ALL the attention. He is our water cat, and loves the bathroom-legit, he will run so fast to beat you to the bathroom door. He drinks from our faucet as we brush our teeth and as soon as you shower he is there pawing at you to love on him.

Sometimes it is crazy thinking that we have THREE cats, but honestly they bring so much joy into our lives and we couldn't possibly imagine life without them. How crazy are you about your animals, if you have any? Crazy like me, let me know :)

How to: Tease like a Boss...

How to Tease like a Boss

First things First:
Grab your hairspray and teasing comb/brush.
Wella: Stay Essential finishing spray // Conair teasing comb
I also did not edit these pics, I do not know why they look so soft, nor do I like it lol.
 Step Two:
Start section by section (about two inches) : Spray, Tease , Repeat. Until all the way around your crown
Admire the mess
Step Three:
Softly comb down with the teasing brush without the force. You are just taming that mane.
Step 4: Lightly Hairspray to tame the flyaway pieces...

The before and afters...
Before                                                                                                          After
There you have it! You now know how to tease your hair like a true Texas Girl.

If you do not care to wear it down, once you follow the steps above, just add a ponytail holder and voila.. a sweet side pony

Disclaimer: I do not typically tease my hair unless I am feeling a little adventurous and I also do NOT go full out Texas girl EVER ;)

I hope you enjoyed this hair tutorial, I have a very hard time not goofing off, but that's just me..

Happy Wednesday

Top Knot

I have an announcement...
It is Thursday! That means tomorrow is Friday and I will have the weekend to enjoy... We do not really have any plans scheduled, so that means cooking, photography and blogging :)

This is my first successful attempt at a Top Knot. I know, I know, ridiculous eh? Well I have a lot of hair that does not like working with a sock, it is overwhelming. Any who, I was playing around late a few nights ago and I got it.. it was too late to show it off and I am pretty sure I got in bed like 10 minutes after, but I totally got it. I think I would like to maybe put together some hair tutorials, or makeup more frequently.
I know this is not a tutorial but maybe with some practice, and once I get my lighting equipment shipped, I can play around with hair and makeup. Those are two loves of mine that I have always enjoyed (as far back as I can remember)  always being that little girl asking to play with anyone who would allow me to's hair, making my sweet (all grown up,now) cousin sit as I curled her hair and "styled her" placing her in front of curtains at my nana and papas house and snapping pictures. My mother always said go into something successful, make something of yourself and you can do hair and makeup for fun, like she did. So that is what I am going to do... use my blog, my space and have fun.

I just wanted to show my top know off and chat a little, is there anything that you have always wanted to do, but it has taken a while to realize you can do it NOW? Let me know!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!
Chat soon loves.

Baby on the Brain..

Let me talk a little more candid than normal...

Cesar and I have been talking about having a baby together since the dawn of time. No, really it was more like a few months into us dating. He even had a secret surgery when we had been dating for a month or two to have his vasectomy reversed. Yes, my husband was 26-27 when he decided to have a vasectomy... I had no play in that action and to be honest as frustrating as our journey has been getting pregnant,it would possibly been non-existent if he had not decided in his prior marriage to have it done, Or we would have so many children that we would not have been able to focus on our love and marriage. I would NEVER fault his decisions, his situation was not a positive one to experience in a marriage. Enough about that... I said he decided very early on (when I told him I would TOTALLY love to have children with him) to have his vasectomy reversed. As you can probably guess, it did not take, but is it not funny how things work out ... Our doctor explained that had the reversal prior not been done, our percentage or chance of concieving nature would be much graver. It has not happened yet, but we were able each year to focus on bettering ourselves, learning each other, loving each other for husband and wife. I have grown up wanting to be a mother, it is embedded inside of me... BUT, I also wanted to be a young mom, like mine. Man, I am pretty sure we have had some people watching over us that everything happens for a reason, and to BE PATIENT lol.

Here are a few challenges we have overcome through the years:
  • I was diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes (rare for my age)
  • My father passed away
  • Alexandria's mother was a huge challenge (another story, another day)
  • We gained temporary custody of Alexandria
  • Gained Full custody of Alexandria
  • Went from being part-time, to full-time mom.
  • We lived in my mother and father-in laws garage.- Yes, a couch, bed and air mattress on the floor for a long time... lo-ng time.
  • Moved into our first home as a family of three.

All of that happened as a test to show ourselves that we, Cesar and I are a force to be reckoned with, succeeding it all. I believe that if we had a child before all of the challenges we had faced ,we might not have known the fight and strength we were capable of fighting together as a couple. We are a family unit, I raise Alexandria as my child, and she thinks of me as her mother. I know that happened for a reason, someone wanted to give her a fighting chance to make a successful woman out of her, and allow her to live her life to her full potential (overachiever status-which she is) LOL.

I setup this post to be more informative than typical to explain how much we had been dreaming of the day that we could find that specific amount of money, that we do not run into EVER that would allow us to start trying..WE DID IT with a lot of support from the two of our families.
Late last year, Cesar and I decided to find a Doctor we felt comfortable with running, never looking back. We found that match, we feel very comfortable and hopeful that this is will bring many things to us. Cesar is set to have his surgery exactly 3 weeks from this day. He is nervous, I am anxious but just knowing that we have taken the steps to open to the next chapter of our lives is enough to smile ear to ear, re-evaluate your love. I cannot tell you the happiness my heart has for husband and daughter- but my love for those two grows deeper thinking that we might grow our little family into 4. We stay pretty open with Alexandria and our family, they know what we are going through. I think a lot of them are very proud, and just as excited now as we are. No matter what comes of this, does not matter- I have the love of my life and sweet child already to love forever and always, right by my side.

I was very apprehensive about this post, actually putting it out there...Honestly, we have been more patient than ever (8 years)... I want to be open with my followers and hopefully give inspiration to any family or wife in a similar situation or to just give a little glimpse into the evolution of our life together. You can see how we have baby on the brain so much :)

I hope you all made it through lol, this was a winded post..
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

My Makeup Routine

What a morning, right?
love my new camera

I thought I would jump on the Makeup bag bandwagon. I love makeup, so hey, why not?

Honestly, I have close to six makeup bags lying around, and most of them are filled with makeup I do not use or might be bad by now. So, this weekend I decided to give most of it to Alexandria and Francee, let them start their own 13-14 year old makeup collection. I have always had a VERY minimalist view on makeup... so yes, I DO NOT buy into the MAC-full faced-every.day. look, I am an avid natural beauty believer. I understand if you do so to cover up imperfections and mean no disrespect to those beautiful ladies that do have the time (or patience) to full-face it everyday. My belief is when I am wearing light makeup, people can still recognize me-for me. I was not allowed much makeup growing up, my mom would allow me to use clear mascara, that is it. She was a full-face-r and would always tell me that I need to keep my skin as youthful as possible, something she wished she had done. I never really wore makeup except for important events, until about 2 years ago, and I still do not wear a full face... Low maintenance up in here!!

So, here is essentially my entire makeup bag, with the exception of a few WAYY too many lipgloss'/lipsticks ,and multiple blushes.

Complextion:
I do not wear powder or foundation, but I will wear a bronzer during the warmer months.
Almay Wake up under eye corrector (if this is not on, I look like death)
Maybelline True match concealer (any pimples that day, gone!)
Laura Geller Highlighter (still not sure what this does, but I youtube-d where to apply it on my face)
Laura Geller Pink Grapefruit blush (NEW LOVE)
Eye:
Glamlash mascara (this came with my Laura cosmetic bag, it is really nice)
ELF cream eyeliner-midnight (not an everyday wear)
Kevyn Aucoin: Precision Eyebrow pencil (yes again promoting this AMAzing pencil)
Urban Decay: Naked Palette 2 (not an everyday wear)
Lips:
Nivea Lip butter (constant, and under lipsticks)
Baby Lips-berry (my all day go-to)
Revlon- Just bitten Kissable

Have a tremendous day!

Weekend Re-cap

Good Morning Lovelies!

So this weekend was superb, we were able to accomplish everything we had wanted to accomplish. My little sis came over to stay the night, we made homemade pizzas, lounged, cleaned, I feel like I was able to get some much needed rest, spent more than I wanted at the grocery store stocking up on healthy foods, and loved every second with my sweet family.

Cesar and I had been talking about investing in a high quality camera for a while now... and, we invested! I had no idea how much easier this makes shooting pictures. We purchased the Canon EOS Rebel T5i, and are incredibly pleased, now I just need to learn how to use it.

We hit the mall to just get out of the house and I was able to snag a great new purse from Banana Republic with some earrings too. Great steals.

I caught up on some magazine reading and watched a beautiful double rainbow come out after a very dreary day.
I honestly do not know how I get so behind on my magazines, but I hate it...
The girls kept asking if we could go find the end of the rainbow :)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The Go-Getter

I am a go-getter, initiator, and self sufficient to a fault... When I see someone that is not like that, it is extremely hard to understand...

I mean, Cesar and I are both alike, we are Definitely raising our daughter now, and future children to be that way.

That moves me along to my next topic... Does any woman, other than me, ever feel like you want to look your husband, family member, friend or anyone- square in the eye and say, "Just get it please, get me, understand that I am telling you, I would prefer you to just understand today, it is not hard."

I am a very self sufficient woman, I will do anything alone, because I know I can get it done. That is a fault of mine because I typically will not speak up, I do this because it is easier to not have to ask, just do it myself. Cesar is the most caring and adorable husband  when he is trying to take care of me, but the best description of me is a quote from Cesar, "You are horrible at allowing someone to take care of you". He is right, I end up feeling bad that I have put someone out and some other thoughts on myself being a control freak. As much as I would love to sit at home eating Bon-Bon's and watching TV and relying on someone to take care of me, I honestly do not think I would be capable of that. I am good at taking care of others, I actually love helping others, this was something I have inherited from my mom, then on down the gene pool. I am struggling (outside of home) with NOT losing my cool and be straight forward with someone I am very close with, I am tired of giving answers or seeing a completely capable beautiful person, not even try to better their situation. I would love to see this person strive to their full potential and take the initiative to do it on their own. I know they are capable... I also realize that I was raised to be totally self sufficient, so having a husband trying to help is amazing, and he is a perfect husband, but ladies don't you love accomplishing things on your own too? To be honest, if I do not know how to do something I GOOGLE it lol. I eventually figure it out or ask for help, it might not turn out perfect, but I will get the job done.

**Edited to clarify, Thank you Rach!!- I am rather OK with having help around things I am not expert with and know I would probably break- Like : Cars, computers, electronics, home appliances, stuff like that. Cesar is my knight in shining armor for situations like that :) Thank you C and in turn I will always be willing to help my hubs with anything!!

This post is not really going anywhere, just needed to talk about how the heck I am going to tell this wonderful person to get the head on straight and DO IT ALREADY.

On a lighter note: Tomorrow is Friday and I am PUMPED. I hope you all have a tremendous remaining day.

Liebster Award

Good Morning!
This is going to be a bit different for me, I was fortunate enough to have two lovely bloggers nominate me for the Liebster Award... Corrie and Livia ,Thank you so much ladies!

If you are not aware, a Liebster Award is a way of getting other bloggers known, shared and generally getting the word out about them, if they have under 500 followers.

A few simple rules apply -
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you
2. Answer the 11 questions given to you
3. Nominate 11 other followers with less than 500 followers
4. Post 11 questions for your nominees to answer
5.Tag your nominees & post a comment on their blog to let them know you nominated them

My Questions from Livia.
1. How often do you blog? Have you set any specific days?
I do not have a schedule, although I think/talk a lot about starting to schedule my material.
2. When you have to buy a new makeup product do you search online for reviews or you just trust your own instinct?
I have actually always just made impulse purchases, and it has worked for me. I have been paying more attention to reviews the older I get, and pay attention to what I am putting on my skin...
3. In which store you prefer to shop for makeup?
ULTA, Beauty Bar (online), or Nordstroms
4. Which is your favorite mascara?
Maybeline- Great lash. Yes, the pink and green tube is the BEST mascara of all time.
5. Which is your favorite shade of lipstick?
Light Pink
6. When did you first start doing makeup?
I was actually not allowed to wear any facial makeup, other than mascara until I was around 15-16, my mom taught me the appreciation of natural beauty and showcasing on that. So, to answer the question, like 2 years, and I do not wear powder or foundation, still.
7. Which is your favorite makeup brand?
Toss up between Chanel, or Bobbi Brown.
8. If you could choose to live somewhere, where would it be?
New York or Seattle.
9. How long have you been blogging?
Just past my One year mark.
10. What camera do you use to take pictures for your blog?
Lol, my Iphone or our Nikon... nothing fancy. Yes, I do know it is essential to invest in a quality camera.
11. Whats is the thing you like the most about blogging?
At first, it was my own little space, my own little world, all for me- Now, I have met so many new friends and continue, how could I stop :)

Here are my questions from Corrie:
1.What was the first brand of make-up you really started to love?
Chanel was my first purchase, make-up wise.

2. What inspired you to start your blog?
I had followed fashion and lifestyle blogs for quite some time (3-4 years), I had just started a new job and a (now close) co-worker encouraged me to go for it when I mentioned that I was interested in starting one.
3.Lipstick or Lip gloss?
Lipstick
4. If you could go anywhere, where would it be and why?
I would love to go to Mexico City, my husband grew up there and I would love to be able to experience the busy city-life there and see where my husband grew up.

5. What are your 3 "cant live without" products?
LOccitane- Almond Shower Oil
Aveda- Blue Malva Conditioner
Kevyn Aucoin- Precision eyebrow pencil -brunette
6.What was your first piece of high end make-up?
Again, my Chanel blush and bronzer
7. Date night or Day out together?
Both, I spend as much time with my hubby and daughter as possible. We both work full-time, so our weekends together are all day and night.

8. What is the worst beauty product you have ever bought?
Any "BB cream". Seriously, since I do not wear powder or foundation I thought it would be beneficial... all that happened was, my face broke out and I was greasier than a hamburger grill.

9. Beauty, Fashion or Lifestyle? What's your favorite to blog about?I am more of a lifestyle-esque blog maybe with fashion and beauty mixed in. If I had more time in the day, I would totes be more fashion/beauty based.
10. Flats or Heels?
I am 5'10, so flats. I will rock the hell out of some heels, when the mood strikes.

11. How often do you hit the shops for new make-up?
Well, I am less than 2 minutes from an Ulta, so I try hard to refrain daily lol, so maybe once every two weeks...
